Body Mass Index (BMI) Calculator


Body mass index (BMI) is the best proxy for body fat percentage among ratios of weight and height. A frequent use of the BMI is to assess whether an individual's body weight is normal or desirable for a person of his or her height.

Body mass index (BMI) is categorized by the International Obesity Task Force as:

• 18.5–24.9 = Healthy weight,

• 25.0–29.9 = Overweight,

• 30.0–34.9 = Class I obesity,

• 35.0–39.9 = Class II obesity,

• >40.0 = Class III obesity.

It is generally acknowledged that obesity increases the risk of many diseases. These risks become more evident as the BMI increases.

  Healthy weight 5th percentile to 84.9th percentile
  Overweight 85th to 94.9th percentile
